Otunba Ajiboye Tasks Media Practitioners On Promoting Nigerian Culture

The Executive Secretary of the National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), Otunba Biodun Ajiboye, has urged media practitioners, music artists, and movie producers to take pride in promoting Nigeria’s rich culture and languages.
While delivering a keynote address at the 15th anniversary celebration and award presentation of All Eyes on Africa, held at Fantasia Hall, Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, Otunba emphasized the need to define and appreciate Nigeria’s cultural identity.
These were contained in a statement signed by Lanre Arepo, the Corporate Affairs Directorate of NICO Lagos Liaison Office.
According to Otunba, despite challenges posed by globalization, modernization, and cultural imperialism, Nigerians must work towards promoting their cultural heritage. He noted that the African psyche has been influenced to believe that beauty is associated with being slim and fair in complexion, whereas African women are naturally plump.
To address these challenges, Otunba advocated for Nigerians to take control of their narrative by sharing their stories, music, arts, and cultures. He also encouraged media owners to promote patriotism by educating children to appreciate Nigerian cultures and speak indigenous languages.
During the event, Otunba who was also an award recipient, announced the launch of the Nigerian Academy for Cultural Studies (NACUS) and revealed that the Soun Ogbomosho, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Oladuni Olaoye, has donated a building for the Institute’s campus in Ogbomosho.
The event brought together Royal Fathers from Yorubaland and guests from across Africa, featuring the unveiling of the organization’s compendium, award presentations, and cultural performances.
