Otunba Ajiboye Debunks Rumours of Wale Edun’s Illness

The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO), Otunba Biodun Ajiboye, has dismissed as false and malicious the widespread rumours about the health of Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun.

In a statement released through his media team in Abuja on Wednesday, Otunba Ajiboye described the reports suggesting that Mr. Edun was seriously ill, had suffered a stroke, or had been flown abroad for treatment as “entirely untrue, unfortunate, and a deliberate attempt to malign his person.”

“I have it on personal authority, as I recently had a conversation with him,” Ajiboye said. “I am also aware that he had about a ten-minute discussion with the President recently. From my confirmed knowledge, he has been attending to official files even while on mild bed rest. Can a paralyzed man attend to files? Nigerians now know better that some news sources are dubious and should be disrespected and discountenanced.”

Ajiboye added that it is only natural for Mr. Edun to experience some level of fatigue due to the demands of his high office, describing him as a “workaholic” dedicated to the nation’s economic transformation.

He further urged those peddling the rumours—whom he described as individuals dissatisfied with Mr. Edun’s reform-driven policies—to desist from spreading falsehoods, emphasizing that such acts are unpatriotic and counterproductive.
