Omisore Backs Tinubu’s Choice, Declares Support For Oyebamiji As APC’s Osun 2026 Consensus Candidate

Former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore, has thrown his weight behind former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), who has been adopted as the party’s consensus flagbearer for the 2026 Osun State governorship election.

Omisore was among seven aspirants disqualified by the APC Screening Committee for alleged breaches of party guidelines and electoral rules. Others affected were former Deputy Governor Benedict Olugboyega Alabi, Akin Ogunbiyi, Prince Dotun Babayemi, Senator Babajide Omoworare, Kunle Adegoke (SAN), and Babatunde Haketer Oralusi.

Amid protests from the aspirants over claims that the process tilted in favour of Oyebamiji, President Bola Tinubu intervened, convening a reconciliatory meeting where all the aspirants eventually accepted his choice—except Omisore, who was absent.

Speaking on TVC News’ Politics Tonight, Omisore said the party must follow the direction of its leader and affirmed his support for the consensus arrangement. He noted that he holds no regrets about his political choices, describing himself as “an old wine that tastes better,” and emphasizing that he still commands a strong base of loyal supporters.

While revealing that he had advised the party leadership on alternative options, Omisore said he remains committed to aligning with President Tinubu’s decision. He added that he would formally brief his supporters on the matter and called for a comprehensive overhaul of the APC’s strategy ahead of the 2026 governorship contest in Osun
