Ododo Restates Commitment To Inclusivity, As First Lady Empowers Persons With Disabilities

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering support for persons with disabilities as the First Lady, Hajiya Sefinat Usman Ododo, distributes mobility aids and financial support to hundreds of vulnerable citizens across the state.

The Governor, who was present at the heartwarming empowerment ceremony organised by the Ohunene Empowerment Initiative, the First Lady’s pet foundation, where over 260 persons with disabilities benefitted from the distribution of wheelchairs, crutches, walking sticks, and cane guides designed to improve mobility and independence.

 

The initiative also extended special care to persons living with albinism, with sunscreen creams distributed to 25 beneficiaries to safeguard their health and wellbeing.

Ododo’s presence at the event sent a strong message of solidarity and government backing for disability inclusion, underscoring his administration’s belief that no segment of society should be left behind in Kogi State’s development journey.

Beyond the mobility aids, the empowerment programme featured significant financial support aimed at improving the economic stability of beneficiaries.

A total of 260 persons with disabilities received N100,000 each, while an additional 100 beneficiaries were supported with N200,000 each to boost their livelihoods.

Persons living with albinism were also given N50,000 each as part of the comprehensive support package.

Speaking through his actions, Governor Ododo’s support for the First Lady’s initiative reflects an administration deeply committed to social welfare, equity, and the protection of the most vulnerable. The programme aligns with the government’s broader vision of building an inclusive Kogi State where every citizen, regardless of physical condition, is given the opportunity to live with dignity and purpose.

The event was marked by emotions and gratitude as beneficiaries expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Governor and the First Lady for their kindness, empathy, and sustained commitment to uplifting persons with disabilities.

Many described the intervention as life-changing, restoring hope and confidence in government.
