Odo Obara Junior Inclusive School, Epe, Wins Lagos Students With Disabilities Quiz Star Prize

Some Contestants, Teachers And Lagos State Officials During The Event

Odo Obara Junior Inclusive School, Epe, on Wednesday emerged overall winner of the 2025 Students with Disabilities Interactive Quiz Competition in Lagos State.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the annual event was organised by the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) in collaboration with the Lagos State Ministry of Basic Education.
The event, which held at Agidingbi with five schools contesting, had the theme: “Ensuring The Quality Education of Children With Disabilities”.
NAN reports that Sango Junior School, Agege, came second while Ikeja Junior Inclusive High School clitched the third position.

The fourth and fifth positions went to Methodist Junior School, Badagry and Ipakodo Junior School, Ikorodu respectively.
NAN reports that the first place winner, Odo Obara Junior Inclusive School, Epe, went away with a trophy in addition to cash reward from LASODA.
Other winners and participating schools also received undisclosed cash rewards.
Speaking with NAN, Joseph Olugbemi a contestant from Odo Obara Junior Inclusive School, Epe, expressed delight that his school came first.
Olugbemi who is a student with speech impairment thanked the Lagos State Government for the event which he said: “made me happy”.
Miss Miracle Onoja from Ikeja Junior High School, who spoke through an interpreter, thanked the government for providing a platform to equity and fairness to all children in the state.
Onoja who has hearing impairment, said: “I feel good because my school is a winner”.
Earlier, the General Manager of LASODA, Mrs Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal in her remarks, reintegrated government’s commitment to inclusive education for all children in the state.
Oyetunde Lawal, who was represented by the Director of Admin and Human Resources of the agency, Mrs Omolade Sonubi, urged the society to stop discrimination against children with disabilities.
She said that in addition to fostering academic excellence, the quiz would also activate the talents, abilities, and potential of students with special needs.
According to her, the event will also encourage parents of children with disabilities to become more involved in their educational journeys for them to aspire for growth and achieve greatness.
She thanked the Lagos State Ministry of Basic Education for their collaboration and commitment to supporting children with disabilities.
“At this juncture, I urge society to desist from discrimination and abuse of persons with disabilities. Such actions are inhumane and unjust.
“Remember, every child deserves access to quality education, care, and encouragement, and it is our duty to provide that to all, without exception,” she said.
The acting Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mrs Grace Abolarin said Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration had prioritised the needs of students with special education.
Abolarin added that government would continue to upscale facilities to improve the learning environment for this category of students. (NAN).
