Obasa Redeems N100,000 Cash Promise To 500 Secondary School Students

For 500 students drawn from public secondary schools across Lagos State’s six education districts, Christmas came early. At events marking his birthday in November, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, had promised a cash gift of N100,000 to each student who attended the celebration—an announcement that generated widespread excitement. True to his word, Speaker Obasa has now redeemed the promise, giving the students a December to remember.
The fulfilment of the pledge was announced by Dr. (Mrs.) Sherifat Abiodun Adedoyin, a member of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB).
“Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has graciously redeemed his promise of N100,000 each to 500 students across Lagos State,” Adedoyin said. “This generous commitment, made during his birthday celebration on November 11, 2025, underscores his unwavering dedication to the advancement of education and the welfare of children in the state.”
She added that the gesture would go a long way in supporting the educational aspirations of the beneficiaries. “We deeply appreciate this act of kindness, which will significantly help meet the students’ educational needs and promote academic excellence. May this gesture continue to inspire hope and create a lasting positive impact in our communities.”
Describing the N50 million educational support as an investment in the future, Speaker Obasa noted that the initiative was designed to create opportunities for public secondary school students in areas such as education, vocational training, and entrepreneurship.
The cash support followed a pre-birthday youth engagement event themed “The Youth: Striving to Greater Heights,” which brought together students from across Lagos State. The gathering transformed a personal milestone for the Speaker into a landmark moment for youth empowerment and development.
During the event, Speaker Obasa charged the students to see challenges as opportunities, stressing the importance of focus, perseverance, and faith in God as essential ingredients for success.
“This personal journey is not just my story; it is a message to every young person here and those watching across various platforms,” he said. “It is a wake-up call—to rise, to believe in yourself, and to pursue your dreams with passion and determination.
“The sky is not the limit; it is only the beginning when you choose to unlock your potential and embrace the opportunities that abound in our great nation.”
The Speaker further announced the launch of a structured mentorship programme that will pair young talents with seasoned professionals, describing it as a sustainable pathway to growth and long-term impact.
“This isn’t just inspiration,” he affirmed. “It is a pathway to greatness.”
