Northern PDP Governors Make Last Minute Move, Collapse Party Structure For Peter Obi

A last joker that might change the entire calculation of the Presidential Election slated for Saturday February 25, 2023 is currently playing out between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party.

Sources in the know revealed to us exclusively that the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi is about to repeat what he did with the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) under which he ruled for eight years as the Governor of Anambra State between 2006 and 2014.

Recall that after vowing that he would never leave APGA, Obi later dumped the party with the support of a retired army general, who had earlier helped him to weaken the PDP in the state, only for him to join the latter under which he contested as vice president in the 2019 general elections.

It was reliably gathered that the joker is coming from some northern governors from the PDP, who might have decided to collapse their structure into the Labour Party to help Peter Obi win the election.

The Governors were said to have met with Obi under the premise that they now believe that power must shift to the South this time around.

We were informed that the plan is that Obi would later decamp to the PDP and  our source maintained that the governors did not think twice before leaving the party’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in the cold.

“The game is a last minute move that will change the dynamics. The Governors are now believers in power shift to the South. They have met with some retired army generals on the issue and everything seems to be working well.

“You will recall that Obi succeeded in destroying APGA in Anambra State then, but former governor Willie Obiano did not decamp with him. The rest is now history,” said a source.

It was gathered that Peter Obi deliberately refused to conduct Local Government elections in Anambra as governor so that APGA will be weak in the state by the time he’s leaving for the PDP.

Sources stressed that Obi’s deal with the retired general that is supporting him is for him to use Labour Party as a vehicle and cross over to PDP later.

A retired general from the North is also said to be part of those talking to the northern governors to collapse their structures for Obi.

“Though some of the Governors are not in agreement, some are willing to go with the deal. It’s a top secret deal. They have met twice in Abuja under the cover of the dark . One of the go-between person is a top Yoruba politician and a banker from the South South,” said a source.

The source maintained that the plan is that after the 2023 presidential election, if Obi eventually wins, he would dump the Labour Party and pitch his tent with the PDP.

“With this, he feels he will have more latitude and that the PDP would give him the desired leverage,” said our source, who added that “time will tell if the last leg of the relay race would help Obi achieve his dream of becoming the president  of Nigeria”
