A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has debunked reports alleging that the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, is suffering deteriorating health while in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).
In a statement shared via his verified Facebook page on Thursday, Igbokwe insisted that Kanu was “110 per cent okay”, contrary to repeated claims by the IPOB leader’s legal team.
“Let me drop this here this morning for all Igbo in Nigeria and diaspora to know. Nnamdi Kanu is 110% ok,” Igbokwe wrote.
The APC stalwart accused Kanu of being responsible for the wave of killings, destruction, and economic disruption that have affected the South-East region, alleging that the separatist leader had misled many youths into violence.
“Let us not deceive ourselves. Let us speak the truth for once and shame the devil. Nnamdi killed our people in thousands and businesses,” he stated.
Igbokwe further claimed that the reports about Kanu’s ill health were “lies from the pit of hell,” aimed at gaining sympathy and manipulating public opinion.
“A man who led Igbo young men and women to kill our people in 10 years, burnt our homes, stole our wives, closed our markets and businesses etc., is telling you he is sick. He is not sick at all. All these claims about his health is a lie from the pit of hell,” he added.
Meanwhile, Kanu’s legal team has on several occasions raised alarm over his health condition, alleging that his continued detention without access to adequate medical attention could lead to severe consequences.
Kanu has been in DSS custody since June 2021, facing multiple charges bordering on treasonable felony and terrorism after his extradition from Kenya to Nigeria. His case has continued to generate widespread controversy, with growing calls for his unconditional release from both local and international observers.
