Nigerian OAP Dotun Accuses U.S. Embassy Of Aiding Ex-Wife In Alleged Child Abduction Despite Court Orders

Nigerian on-air personality, Dotun Kayode, has accused the United States Embassy in Nigeria of facilitating the relocation of his two children to the U.S. without his consent—despite an active custody case and a standing court order restricting international travel.
Dotun and his estranged wife, Taiwo Oyebanjo, were married for eight years and have been embroiled in a protracted legal dispute over the custody of their two daughters. The OAP has repeatedly alleged that Taiwo, her family, and her brother—popular singer D’Banj—have denied him access to the children in violation of a court-ordered joint custody arrangement.
In a series of posts shared on social media, Dotun claimed the U.S. Embassy “connived” with Taiwo to relocate the children abroad about three years ago, despite a court directive barring either parent from taking them out of Nigeria. He said he had been in possession of the children’s original passports and that the court order explicitly required his consent before any form of foreign travel.
According to Dotun, the embassy issued new U.S. passports to the children—who are American citizens by birth—without informing him or verifying parental consent, allegedly bypassing standard protocols.
“The American embassy in Nigeria is an enabler of child abduction… very biased. No proper investigation,”
he wrote, adding that he had been silent for three years but could no longer endure the situation.
He further accused the former U.S. Consul-General in Nigeria, Mary Beth Leonard, of supervising a “compromised and biased process” that enabled the relocation. Dotun argued that the embassy’s globally recognized two-parent consent policy for issuing passports to minors was ignored, claiming “papers were most likely forged, or games played” to complete the process.
The OAP said the alleged actions of the embassy violated his parental rights and escalated an already painful custody dispute into a cross-border legal battle. He demanded answers on how the children were allowed to leave Nigeria despite clear travel restrictions and ongoing court proceedings.
“Even though my children are U.S. citizens, their mother is not. Issuing new passports without my consent or a court mandate shows a failure to protect the rights of a non-American father.”
Dotun also questioned whether foreign missions should disregard court orders from Nigerian courts:
“When a court gives an order in a country, is it null and void because someone can cook up the best lies?
The American embassy, it’s time to provide my kids or give me a fair hearing. It’s been 3 years—where are my children?”
As of press time, the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria has not issued any public response to Dotun’s allegations
