Nigeria Takes Textile Lead: Tinubu To Launch Giant Cotton-Polyester Plant In Ogun

Ogun State is set to make global headlines as the site of the world’s largest cotton and polyester processing factory, a bold project under Nigeria’s “Renewed Hope Cotton Resurgent Initiative.” Governor Dapo Abiodun revealed on Tuesday that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will officially perform the groundbreaking ceremony in the coming weeks at the Special Agro Processing Zone near Gateway International Airport, Iperu/Ilisan.

Spanning 400 hectares, the massive factory will create an estimated 250,000 daily jobs, placing Ogun at the heart of Africa’s emerging textile revival.

Governor Abiodun confirmed that site clearing has already begun, signaling rapid momentum toward construction. In a major boost to regional security, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is also planning to establish a base nearby to protect both the factory complex and the surrounding communities.

“This is more than just a factory; it’s a symbol of Nigeria’s industrial rebirth,” said the governor.

The project is poised to stimulate economic growth, attract foreign investment, and restore Nigeria’s position in the global textile market.
