Nigeria’s Super Eagles will on Saturday face their eastern neighbours and stiff rivals, Cameroon in the Round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny in Abidjan, the venue of their very first AFCON clash 40 years ago.

Cameroon on Tuesday night made a superb comeback in their last Group C match against The Gambia and as it was the night before, the last three minutes proved dramatic. Cameroon, trailing 2-1 came back from the brink of elimination to snatch a 3-2 win.

Equal on points with Guinea who lost the corresponding match, 2-0 to runaway leaders, Senegal, Cameroon got the edge on account of having scored more goals in the group.

It is the eighth time both Nigeria and Cameroon will be meeting in the history of the competition. They first met at the final match 40 years ago. They met again at the group stage at Maroc ‘88 and again for the title fight.

Both Nigeria and Cameroon met at the classification match of Senegal ‘92 and then at the final match in 2000 in Lagos. They clashed at the quarter-finals of Tunisia 2004 and last met at the Round of 16 of Egypt 2019.
