…Club Owner, ‘Pretty Mike’, Among Those in Custody as Illicit Substances Seized

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in the early hours of Sunday, October 26, 2025, raided a popular Lagos nightclub, Proxy Night Club, located at 7 Akin Adesola Street, Victoria Island, where a drug-laced party was reportedly underway.

The coordinated operation, which followed credible intelligence about the planned event, led to the arrest of over 100 suspects, including the club’s owner, socialite Mike Eze Nwalie Nwogu, popularly known as Pretty Mike. The suspects were immediately taken into custody for screening at the NDLEA Lagos Command.

During the raid, operatives recovered cartons of illicit substances, including variants of synthetic cannabis known as Loud, as well as nitrous oxide, commonly referred to as laughing gas, from both the club’s store and several individuals at the venue.

According to NDLEA sources, some operatives had been embedded undercover at the party from around 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, monitoring the event before a full tactical team moved in to disrupt the gathering at about 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, in line with the Agency’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for controlled operations.

The operation, described by NDLEA officials as “swift and intelligence-led,” was part of a wider crackdown on the growing trend of “drug parties” and “high-society rave events” in upscale parts of Lagos.

A senior NDLEA official who spoke on the condition of anonymity said,

“We have been monitoring the activities of certain clubs and individuals who use such gatherings as cover for open drug use and distribution. What happened at Proxy Night Club is just one of several such operations that will follow.”

He added that the suspects are currently being profiled, and those found culpable will be charged accordingly.

Meanwhile, the NDLEA has reiterated its commitment to maintaining zero tolerance for drug abuse, warning nightlife operators, and event organizers to ensure their facilities are not used as platforms for illicit drug activities.

We are determined to dismantle every network that promotes drug abuse in any form — whether in nightclubs, private lounges, or social gatherings. No one is above the law,” the agency stated.

As of press time, Pretty Mike and other detained suspects remain in NDLEA custody pending the conclusion of screening and investigations.
