NAFDAC Seizes Unregistered Food Products Worth N3.8bn At Lagos Warehouse

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has seized unregistered food products valued at over N3.8bn during a raid on a warehouse located in the Apongbon Oke Arin Market of Lagos State.
The operation was led by NAFDAC’s Investigation and Enforcement Directorate, following a tip-off about the sale of unregistered and potentially unsafe food items.
It was gathered that officials discovered a large stockpile of products that violated regulatory standards, prompting the agency to seize the goods valued at N3,818,802,720, making this one of the agency’s largest single seizures in the recent years.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), on Tuesday, the agency noted that the warehouse had been sealed, and the facility placed on hold pending further investigation. It also said the warehouse management had been summoned for questioning as part of efforts to trace the source of the unregistered products and their distribution network while the officials are investigating the source of the unregistered products and their distribution network.
“We reaffirm our commitment to protecting public health and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards,” the agency said in the post.
It further called for extra vigilance and caution by Nigerians during this festive period when purchasing food and other consumables, saying, “We also urge the public to remain vigilant during the festive season, and report suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office”.
The agency pledged to thoroughly investigate and hold those responsible accountable while ensuring adherence to food safety regulations and reaffirmed its dedication to safeguarding public health and enforcing food safety standards, particularly during the festive season when consumer activity is at its peak.
