The family of the late Mr. Kola Muyi, former Deputy Director (Internal Audit) of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Lagos, has donated his extensive collection of vinyl records, VHS tapes, and audio cassettes to the Musical Copyright Society Nigeria Ltd/Gte (MCSN). This generous contribution is intended to enrich the Society’s archival library and preserve Nigeria’s musical heritage.

The donation was formally presented by Mrs. Kemi Muyi-Adeniyi, one of Mr. Muyi’s daughters and the current Director of Content and Operations at Lagos State Television (LTV). Speaking on behalf of the family, Mrs. Muyi-Adeniyi noted that MCSN, as a body dedicated to the advancement of music and musicians, is the most fitting custodian of the treasured collection. She emphasized the family’s desire for the materials to be preserved for the benefit of younger generations, rather than be lost to time and the elements.

Receiving the donation, MCSN’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Mayo Ayilaran, expressed deep gratitude to the Muyi family for entrusting the Society with such a valuable historical archive. He assured that the materials would be carefully preserved and made accessible for public education, research, and the appreciation of Nigeria’s musical evolution.

“As a Collective Management Organisation (CMO), MCSN is unwavering in its mission to protect the rights of Nigerian musicians—past and present,” Mr. Ayilaran said. “Under the Nigerian Copyright Act, musical works are protected throughout the creator’s lifetime and for 70 years after their death. This ensures that the heirs and legal estates of music creators continue to benefit from the royalties and recognition their works deserve.”

He further reaffirmed MCSN’s commitment to preserving Nigeria’s rich musical legacy and extended an open invitation to individuals and families who may wish to contribute to the Society’s growing archive.

“As we continue to connect creativity with prosperity, contributions like this are vital in keeping the legacies of our music pioneers alive,” Mr. Ayilaran concluded.
