Makinde Sounds Alarm On Potential Influx Of Northern Terrorists In Yorubaland

The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has raised concerns over the influx of terrorists from the Northwest region fleeing to the south west states due to the ongoing military operations in the region.
He mentioned that the ongoing military operations in the northern region may potentially force the criminals to relocate to Ibadan, the state capital.
Makinde made the statement during the 2025 annual inter-faith service for workers, held in Agodi, Ibadan. He vowed to take swift action against the fleeing bandits, promising to confront the threat head-on.
“2024 was a particularly challenging year in terms of security,” the governor said. “We faced incidents such as fire outbreaks, armed robberies, and kidnappings. But in 2025, we will intensify our efforts to tackle these issues.”
“From a security briefing this morning, I learned that some criminal elements from the Northwest are coming here due to the military crackdown in their areas. But rest assured, we will locate them and deal with them accordingly.”
Makinde further revealed that during his birthday retreat, bandits were spotted less than two kilometers away from his location, highlighting the severity of the situation.
The governor appealed to residents and traditional rulers to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities. “To our traditional rulers, who are guardians of your territories, and to all residents, this is a serious matter. If you notice anything unusual, report it immediately.”
He reassured Oyo State citizens, saying, “For us in Oyo, bandits will have no place. I will not rest until every corner of this state is secure.”
The situation in Northern Nigeria remains dire, with many states struggling with banditry, terrorism, and the resulting devastation, including deaths, kidnappings, and widespread insecurity.
