Magu May Spend Weekend In Custody, Aides Grilled

The embattled acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu spent the fourth night in custody on Thursday after he and some of his subordinates in the commission were grilled.

Sources said that the grilling by the presidential panel headed by Justice Ayo Salami (rtd.) focused on operatives of the commission known to be favourites of Mr. Magu. They are popularly known as the Magu Boys within the commission.

They were reportedly grilled over multiple allegations of extortion, diversion of proceeds of confiscated properties among other allegations.

The allegations were at the centre of the memo raised against Magu by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami.

No indication as to the possible release of Magu from custody has been made known as the likelihood of the former anti-graft czar spending the weekend in custody looks likely.

Sources say that Magu is being held in administrative custody of the police under which the authorities can hold him being a serving policeman on administrative issues.

This is about the second time that Magu would be in serious trouble over his role in the EFCC. Shortly after the initial chairman of the commission Mallam Nuhu Ribadu was removed, Magu suffered even worse as he was suspended from office for 20 months.
