Lagos Socialite, E-Money Regains Freedom After Questioning By EFCC Over Naira Abuse

Popular Lagos socialite Emeka Okonkwo, better known as E-Money, has regained his freedom following hours of interrogation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged currency abuse.

E-Money was arrested on Monday night at his residence in the Omole area of Lagos and transported to the EFCC’s Abuja office for questioning. The arrest stemmed from allegations of Naira abuse and defacing foreign currency, specifically for allegedly spraying U.S. dollars at public events — a violation of Nigeria’s Foreign Exchange Act.

On Tuesday evening, the socialite took to Instagram (@iam_emoney1) to announce his release. In a video post, he appeared relaxed and regal, accompanied by the gospel song “Thank You for Saving Me, Thank You My Lord.” He captioned the post: “No tension, everywhere good, I see all your love and support. God bless you all.”

His close associate, fellow socialite Pascal Okechukwu (popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest), also confirmed the release via his own Instagram handle (@Cubana_ChiefPriest), writing: “My brother don fall out, To God be the glory.” He added encouragement: “This will only make you stronger, just like our Rolls Royce.”

While EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale is yet to make an official statement on the matter, EFCC insider confirmed that E-Money was indeed arrested and questioned over currency violations. The source added that investigations are ongoing and the case will proceed to court once completed.
