Lagos Officials Lead Tree Planting Drive At Ndubuisi Kanu Park

Top government officials in Lagos State, on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, gathered at the Ndubuisi Kanu Park, Alausa, for a symbolic tree planting exercise as part of the State’s annual tree planting campaign.

The event, themed “Trees for Lagos,” was led by the Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu on Environment, Engr. Olakunle Olamidosu Rotimi-Akodu, who planted trees on behalf of the governor and in his personal capacity.

Speaking at the ceremony, Rotimi-Akodu emphasized the urgent need for collective action to restore nature.

“We have taken a lot from nature; it’s time to give back,” he said, reaffirming the Sanwo-Olu administration’s commitment to balancing urban growth with environmental preservation.

He further appealed to residents, communities, and private sector stakeholders to plant trees within their surroundings, stressing that environmental sustainability cannot be achieved by government alone.

The General Manager of the Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK), Mrs. Adetoun Popoola, who hosted the event, lauded participants for supporting the State’s greening initiative. She noted that trees provide immense benefits, including improved air quality, climate regulation, enhanced aesthetics, and overall public well-being.

Also present at the event were the Managing Director of the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin; General Manager of the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO), Engr. Adefemi Afolabi; Managing Director of the Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA), Prince Fati Akiolu; and representatives of the Lagos Water Corporation.

The ceremony ended with the presentation of certificates of participation to attendees in recognition of their contributions to the State’s environmental sustainability agenda.
