The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Mudashiru Obasa, has applauded the Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon Dele Oshinowo, over his intervention initiatives to reduce economic hardship in the country.

Obasa stated this as Oshinowo, on Thursday launched “WeLift 450 Petty Traders” Initiative,” which was attended by the Speaker.
The monthly scheme saw the transfer of N50,000 cash support to 450 traders selected from various markets and streets in the council.
Obasa, while applauding the residents, and party leaders for supporting Oshinowo, said that the people remained the priority of any serious government.
“This initiative is something that I have been canvassing among the local government chairmen.
“This is because it is very important to reach out to our people, particularly around this period that the economy is somehow and the impact on the people have not been helpful.
“So, having a Chairman, who is  supporting the women, particularly market women with tokens to enhance their trade, is highly commendable. I want to thank the Chairman on behalf of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
“I want to urge other chairmen to emulate him and reach out to the people. The only thing I am asking them is to make sure they touch lives and impact positively on  our people and put in place, enduring infrastructure.
“Good will, achievements and success while in office are key. So, I urge all the local government chairmen to do their bit and make the people priority,” he said.
According to him, in the Lagos State House of Assembly, the lawmakers are mainly concerned about the development of the state.
He added; “We will continue to do everything to make sure everybody feels the impact of the government.
“We are urging all the 57 LGA Chairmen to emulate Mayor Oshinowo. We know you can’t do it all or finish it, but do your bit while your are there. Let the people feel your impact.
“From what I have heard and seen, the chairman has done tremendously well and deserves the recognition of being called Mayor.”
He then urged the beneficiaries to reciprocate the gesture by using the support to create wealth for themselves and society.
Obasa also called on the people to support the government across levels and pray for leaders, urging them not to join those undermining the efforts of the government.
On the current economic and security challenges facing the nation, Obasa urged the people to be patient with President Bola Tinubu, saying that the President could not solve the numerous problems he met in office overnight.
“There is no magic the President can do. We just must apply patience and wisdom,” the Speaker said.
He urged the traders not to inflate prices of goods and commodities, saying that it is only God that bring lasting wealth and not by inflicting pains on people.
In his welcome address, Oshinowo, who applauded the Speaker for buying into the scheme, said that the initiative was to key into the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of reducing poverty and President Bola Tinubu ‘s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Chairman said that his team went round markets and streets to assess  market values of some traders, and those who met the criteria, were selected to enjoy the gesture.
“This gesture again is to affect the lives of the people in Agboyi-Ketu.
“The best bet for us is to support these traders with our token to grow their business, pay rents, take care of their family and send their children to school for a better society.
“I don’t know the beneficiaries and have never met them, so this is not about politics.
“Each of the 450 women will be getting an alert of N50,000 in their accounts today. My advice is that you don’t use it to buy ‘Aso Ebi'” he said.
According to him, his administration has carried out different people-oriented initiatives and the future remains promising.
“Together, we have embarked in a journey of transformation, striving to uplift every nook and cranny of Agboyi-Ketu and ensure prosperity of out community.
“Our administration has been steadfast in its commitment to driving projects and ensuring inclusive growth,” he added.
Oshinowo said that the council had witnessed the completion of numerous developmental projects in road construction, housing, health facilities, education initiative and empowerment.
“Each endeavour has been a testament to our dedication to well-being and advancement of our people.
“Supporting our women is part of us and it is part of our policies, how to uplift them is very important to us.
“Uplifting our people is about how they would feed themselves, generate some money for themselves and for their family.
“So what we are doing is not just for women it is to also a form of support to families,” Oshinowo added.
In her remarks, Mrs Yetunde Arobieke, a former Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA and former Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment in Lagos State, described Oshinowo as a populist council chairman with a lot of concerns for less privileged.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Adeyinka Olawale, thanked the chairman for the initiative of supporting the traders with the money.
Olawale said that the money would go a long way to support her petty trade and boost her income.
Another beneficiary, Mrs Olawakemi Akindoye also appreciated the chairman, describing  the gesture as  “wonderful steps”
The event was attended by traditional rulers in the council, councillors, party leaders and chieftains among others, who all applauded the Chairman for the gesture.
