Lagos Assembly Commends State Police Command Over Professionalism

Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have commended the State Commissioner of Police, CP Olorundare Moshood Jimoh, and his team for their professionalism and their commitment to safeguarding lives and property during recent security incidents in the State.
Presenting the motion on the Floor of the House, Hon. Stephen Ogundipe, Chairman, Committee on Information, Security and Strategy highlighted the importance of community involvement in enhancing security. He emphasized that public safety is a shared responsibility, urging increased community awareness, public education, and a stronger crime reporting mechanism.
He advocated for improved safety protocols across schools, commercial districts, and public spaces, supported by surveillance systems and regular risk assessments.
He further called for ongoing training of security personnel to enhance their efficiency and responsiveness.
Commending the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, he noted its pivotal role in sustaining security infrastructure across the State. He also applauded the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, for his leadership on the Neighborhood Safety Corps initiative, which has now been adopted by several other States in Nigeria.
In his contribution, Hon. Gbolahan Yishawu echoed support for the motion, describing it as timely and relevant. He acknowledged the Police force as the backbone of security in the State, particularly during the festive season when Lagos received a large influx of people from the diaspora. “The safety of the State during the holidays encouraged many to return home. The Police have improved remarkably in crime detection—even in the absence of forensic tools,” he noted.
Following the deliberations, the House resolved that; there should be a strengthened collaboration among all stakeholders, especially at the community level, to create an enabling and secure environment, also, proactive preventive measures, including robust safety protocols and surveillance in schools, commercial hubs, and public areas must be implemented to deter criminal activities.
He added that continued support should be given to the Lagos State Government security initiatives, including the Lagos State Security Trust Fund.
Hon. Ogundipe further urged the positive and responsible use of social media, warning that misuse could exacerbate existing challenges.
He concluded by recommending that the Commissioner of Police engage with the leadership of the Lagos State House of Assembly to jointly address the State’s evolving security challenges and rising social vices.
