Lagos APC Set To Create Database For Members …Begins E-Registration January 5

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced plans to create a comprehensive database for its members across the state.
According to the party’s Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, the initiative is aimed at effective planning and ensuring that committed party members are properly identified and rewarded.
Ojelabi disclosed this while speaking at an end-of-the-year media briefing held on Friday at the party’s secretariat on Acme Road, Ikeja.
He said that the APC is well positioned to retain power, noting that the performance of its public office holders across the board has continued to attract members from other political parties.
“We want to have a database of our party members. We want to ensure that we go into the next general elections fully prepared. We want to have statistical data of the actual members of our party.
“The National Executive Council of our party has also decided that membership must be meaningful. If you are a member of the APC and you don’t have a Permanent Voter Card (PVC), of what value are you? That is why we are embarking on e-registration of party members,” he said.
He explained that both new and existing members would be captured in the exercise.
“Whether you are joining the party for the first time or you are already a member, you will be registered electronically. Existing members will also undergo revalidation.
“The registration will take place in all the 245 wards recognised by the party constitution, starting from January 5, by the grace of God,” Ojelabi added.
The party Chairman also urged Nigerians to continue praying for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stressing that peace remains a major requirement for national development.
“Let us remember our leaders in our prayers. Development is difficult without peace. Security remains our biggest challenge, and it is a collective responsibility, not the job of leaders alone.
“I am pleading on behalf of Mr President and the Lagos State Government that we should all come together to ensure peace in the country,” he said.
On the appointment of cabinet members for local governments in the state, Ojelabi said a committee had concluded its assignment of identifying qualified individuals across the wards.
“The process has been concluded, and in a few weeks, the composition of the local government cabinets will be rolled out so they can commence operations,” he said.
He also assured aspirants in the last local government elections that funds paid for nomination forms for chairmanship and councillorship positions would soon be refunded, in line with the directive of President Tinubu. According to him, the delay was due to election-related preparations.
Addressing allegations of imposition of candidates, Ojelabi dismissed such claims, saying they usually arise when party decisions do not favour certain individuals.
“Our party conducts some of the best primaries in the country. We prioritise loyalty, consistency at meetings, and commitment, not just those who show up during election periods,” he said.
Corroborating his position, the party’s Publicity Secretary in the state, Mogaji Seye Oladejo, said that the e-registration exercise would help the APC accommodate new entrants while validating existing members.
On alleged imposition of candidates, Oladejo explained that what is often referred to as imposition is consensus, which is allowed by Nigeria’s constitution and the party’s guidelines.
“People complain about imposition when consensus does not favour them. Consensus is clearly stated in our guidelines before any primary election.
“Also, the fact that a person is the son or daughter of a party leader does not disqualify him or her. Such a person must be qualified and a bona fide member of the party. Ultimately, it is the electorate that decides,” he said.
Oladejo added that the APC’s growth from a party once dominant only in Lagos State to one controlling several states across the federation is a testament to its consistency and people-oriented programmes and policies.
