The mangled body of a dead man found on Runway 18R of the international wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos on Thursday has prompted a temporal shut of the nation’s flagship airport.

There are no signs whether the dead man was knocked down by an aircraft taking off or landing on the runway as the identity of the corpse is not known yet, The Punch reports.

According to airport officials, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria and the Nigeria Police Force have evacuated the corpse from the runway after the temporary shutdown.

The temporal shut down also prevented international flights from landing and taking off from the airport’s international terminal.

One of the flights affected during the temporal halt of flights was an Ethiopian Airlines flight 3907, a Boeing 77F aircraft with registration number ETAVN, coming from Lome, Togo to Lagos, Nigeria, which was later diverted back to Lome after holding for a while.

Airport officials said the corpse was suddenly found on Runway 18R during a routine runway inspection by FAAN personnel while spokesperson for FAAN, Mrs. Faithful Avokerie Hope-Ivbaz, said she had yet to be briefed on the development and could not immediately confirm the incident.
