Kogi State Secures Landmark Partnership With China’s Hunan Province To Boost Economic Growth

In a bold move aimed at driving economic development, Kogi State has signed a transformative partnership agreement with Hunan Province in China, focusing on key sectors such as agriculture, mining, and industrialization. This historic collaboration was formalized during a high-profile visit led by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and his delegation to China.
The partnership was announced by Kogi State’s Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon. Kingsley Fanwo, who described the agreement as a strategic step that will significantly enhance the state’s investment prospects. Fanwo emphasized that this partnership with Hunan Province will not only boost Kogi’s agricultural and mining sectors but also pave the way for the realization of the much-anticipated Ajaokuta Industrial Park.
Hunan Province, one of China’s largest and most economically vibrant regions, is renowned for its agricultural output and solid mineral resources. It is also a leader in industrialization, being the fourth-largest steel producer and the top rice producer in China. These strengths, Fanwo noted, align closely with Kogi State’s vast natural resources, positioning the state as a perfect partner for Hunan’s development model, which has successfully driven industrial growth through its network of industrial parks.
The partnership, formed under the China-Africa Economic and Trade Partnership (CAETP) and a Sister City agreement, will see the development of an Industrial Park in Ajaokuta, Kogi State. This Industrial Park will serve as a Special Economic Zone (SEZ), attracting both local and international investors, particularly from China, to set up businesses and create jobs.
Fanwo further revealed that investment meetings have already begun, with several Chinese investors expressing strong interest in the Ajaokuta Industrial Park. These early discussions are being described as “quick wins” for the partnership, highlighting the promising prospects for Kogi’s future growth.
The delegation from Kogi State, led by Governor Ododo, included top officials such as the Chief Economic Adviser to the Government, Mr. Nda Salami, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Muizudeen Abdullahi, SAN, and other key government figures. Their visit marked a significant milestone in the state’s ongoing efforts to attract foreign direct investment and establish Kogi as a key player in Nigeria’s economic development.
Governor Ododo’s leadership was praised by Fanwo for fostering a positive investment climate, which has instilled confidence in potential investors. The partnership with Hunan Province is seen as a critical step in diversifying Kogi’s economy and positioning the state as a hub for industrial and infrastructural development.
“This partnership is a clear demonstration of Kogi State’s commitment to transforming its economic landscape. With the leadership of Governor Ododo, the state is on the path to becoming a global epicenter of investment, focusing on sectors that will create jobs, build infrastructure, and boost sustainable growth,” Fanwo concluded.
This partnership with Hunan Province represents a significant leap towards unlocking Kogi State’s vast potential, signaling a new era of industrial growth and international collaboration.
