Given the unfolding events in Kogi State, it appears that the incumbent Governor, Alhaji Usman Ododo, may soon find himself in conflict with his political mentor, former Governor Yahaya Bello of the state.
Reports from the confluence state indicated that crisis is currently brewing between Yahaya Bello and Usman Ododo.
Watchers of political activities in the state had noted with awe the servile loyalty of Alhaji Usman Ododo to his predecessor, especially with the statement credited to the Kogi State Governor instructing his aides to follow Alhaji Yahaya Bello’s directives, even when they are at variance with his.
A source in the Government House, who craved anonymity, revealed that intense pressure is being mount on the Governor to take the sister of the immediate past First Lady of the state, Hajia Rashida Bello, as his second wife.
This, the source said, is to make the incoming wife the First Lady of the State.
It was revealed that this became necessary because the current First Lady, Hajia Sefiyah Ododo, is a bit deficient in education.
As expected, the current First Lady has put up a resistance and this has reportedly led to in fights and breaking of the first lady’s doors and changing of locks.
It was gathered that to make matters worse, former Governor Yahaya Bello and wife, Rashida have refused to leave the Government House giving credence to earlier insinuations that Bello is not in a hurry to leave Lugard House as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared him being “at large” in a N10 billion money laundering case before an FCT High, Abuja.
It will be recalled that Mrs Rashida Bello is also an accused person in the same case and is also “at large” as the court records have shown.
It is however, not clear how Alhaji Usman Ododo will handle the alleged compulsory marriage to his predecessor’s sister-in-law.
The next coming days, weeks and months will further reveal how the whole issue would be handled and how the current government will get itself out of the control of the past administration in the state.
