Kaduna Textile Limited To Be Revived By FG

The Federal Government has announced concrete steps to revive the long-defunct Kaduna Textile Limited as part of a broader push for industrialisation and economic growth in Nigeria. Speaking during a two-day government-citizen engagement session in Kaduna on Tuesday, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, revealed that the Tinubu administration is committed to bringing the once-thriving textile company back to life to reinforce the national economy.
Senator Akume, who led a team of northern appointees in President Bola Tinubu’s government, emphasised the administration’s focus on rejuvenating key industries to drive nationwide development. He stated, “We intend to revisit those good old days of Kaduna Textile to further boost and solidify the economy via industrialisation,” underscoring the government’s plan to ensure balanced development across all regions of Nigeria.
Kaduna Textile Limited, which in its heyday was a major employer and a linchpin of northern Nigeria’s economy, has remained moribund for years as a result of outdated equipment, inconsistent policies, and changing market dynamics. Previous efforts at resuscitation have fallen short, but the latest move aligns with the administration’s renewed commitment to industrial revival and economic diversification.
The current plan forms part of a set of eight priority sectors identified by the Tinubu administration, which, in just over two years, claims notable progress in industrialisation, manufacturing, and job creation. Broader national strategies supporting these efforts include low-interest credit for manufacturers, policies favouring local content in procurement, and new support initiatives for infrastructure development.
Industry experts note that modernising textile manufacturing in Kaduna—by investing in state-of-the-art machinery and sustainable supply chains—could help restore the region’s historical role as a centre of Nigerian textile production, create new jobs, and spur inclusive economic growth.
As the government steps up its industrialisation agenda, stakeholders will be watching closely to see whether the long-awaited revival of Kaduna Textile Limited can deliver on its promise of economic transformation.
