“I Respect The Act Of God In My Marriage And Divorce” — Hannatu Musawa

The Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Honourable Hannatu Musa Musawa, has spoken publicly on her marriage and divorce from Nigerian billionaire industrialist Abdul Samad Rabiu, describing both experiences as part of God’s divine will.
Musawa made the remarks during an interview on Mic On, a widely followed podcast anchored by Channels Television senior journalist, Seun Okinbaloye, where she reflected on her personal journey with uncommon candour, faith, and emotional restraint.
Speaking on the digital programme, which was recorded and released over the weekend, the Minister said she has chosen to view both her marriage and its end through the lens of divine purpose rather than public speculation.
“I respect the act of God in my marriage and divorce with Abdul Samad Rabiu. I believe strongly that everything happens for a reason, and that God’s hand is present in every season of our lives,” Musawa said.
She explained that while marriage is often entered with hope and prayer, not every chapter is meant to last forever, adding that wisdom lies in accepting life’s transitions with dignity.
“Every chapter has meaning. I honour the experience, the lessons, and the grace that came with that season of my life,” she added.
Throughout the conversation with Okinbaloye, Musawa deliberately avoided assigning blame or delving into personal details, stressing that discretion, respect, and faith must guide discussions around private relationships—especially for public office holders.
Analysts note that her remarks subtly challenge the stigma often attached to divorce, particularly for women, by reframing separation not as failure but as a natural part of human and spiritual growth.
The Minister reaffirmed her commitment to public service, stating that her focus remains firmly on delivering on the administration’s mandate in culture, tourism, and the creative economy, while remaining anchored in faith and personal development.
The interview on Mic On with Seun Okinbaloye has since sparked widespread public conversation, with many Nigerians praising Musawa’s composure, emotional intelligence, and refusal to sensationalise a deeply personal chapter of her life.
