How Peter Obi’s Running Mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed Was Kicked Out Of The Senate For Election Rigging

Democracy is one form of government that makes provisions for all forms of eventuality, it is one kind of government that gives rooms for everyone to air his or her views and follow the due process anytime he or she feels cheated or short-changed.

It does not however, give room for whoever feels aggrieved to do things in a way that could be seen to be subjudice or lead to break down of law and order.

It is common in this part of world for many people to embrace a rule, when it favours them, but go completely against it, when they are at the receiving end.

The events that followed the recently held presidential election in Nigeria have given many gladiators away as hypocrites, who easily forget history and ignorantly or even deliberately play to the gallery.

Observers believe that the outbursts and actions of the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi and that of his Vice, Mr. Datti Baba-Ahmed are unbecoming of those, who make members of the public believe that they want the best for the country.

“It is no news that the Labour Party came third in the election, and that the stakeholders in the party believe that the election was rigged and that they won the poll.

“While the matter has since been taken to a court of law, both Obi and Datti-Ahmed still want to go through unorthodox method to “claim their stolen mandate,” said a source.

With this, stakeholders believe that it is imperative to remind them of the past, where matters concerning their elections were decided by courts of law.

A source recalled that after the April 28, 2011 election, Datti Baba Ahmed of the Congress For Progressive Change (CPC) was declared winner for the Kaduna North Senatorial District.

“In June 2011, Datti Baba-Ahmed, alongside 108 other winners, were inaugurated in the red chamber as senators. He remained a senator till the end of that year.

“In November 2011, the Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Kaduna heard the petition of Ahmed Makarfi, the former Kaduna State governor and senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who was the opponent of Datti Ahmed, who alleged that the election was rigged in favour of Baba-Ahmed.

“The tribunal ordered a recount of the votes. At the end of recounting, it was established that the result of the election was rigged for Datti Baba-Ahmed.

“The recounted votes showed that Ahmed Makarfi won and not Datti Baba-Ahmed, who was declared as the winner by INEC.

“The TRIBUNAL SUBSEQUENTLY REMOVED Datti Baba-Ahmed from the senate of the Federal Republic, and replaced him with Senator Ahmed Makarfi,” he said.

According to him, the above story is important because “Datti Baba Ahmed was a beneficiary of a rigged election. That did not stop him from being inaugurated.”

The man, whose mandate he stole, he said, followed the laid down route to reclaim his mandate.

“It is therefore preposterous and hypocritical for Datti Ahmed to come out now to threaten that the winners of an election should not be inaugurated.

“If he has a good case, he should follow the path that Makarfi followed to retrieve “his mandate.” That is the established and honorable thing to do. His warning is invitation to anarchy.

“He has also forgotten that his boss, Peter Obi, too once received mandate from former governor of Anambra State, Senator Chris Ngige in the law court.

“Why they can’t wait for court judgement now is so amusing.

“They can’t wait for the court case because they know that they don’t have a case. They just want to cause chaos,” the source said.
