A sociopolitical group, Grassroots For Itesiwaju Ipinle Oyo has called on the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs and Muslim Ummah of South West of Nigeria (MUSWEN) to call former Chairman, Oyo State Pilgrim Board (Muslim wing) Sheik Taofeek Akeugbagold, a controversial Islamic woman preacher, Alhaja Kafilat Kaola and others to order for tarnishing the image of Muslim Ummah and the religion of peace, Islam because of inducements from politicians.

The call, they said, is necessary to protect the integrity of Islam, which the duo and other acclaimed Islamic preachers were said to be trying to bring into the mud.

In a statement released recently by its Convener, Dr. Bello Razaq, the group wondered how people who call themselves Islamic clerics ‘descended so low because of financial inducements and leave themselves in the hands of political desperados to be used as political tools for propaganda, campaign of calumny and disrespect to the tenet of Islamic religion.”

The group said in the statement that, “We want to call the attention of the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs and Muslim Ummah of South West of Nigeria (MUSWEN) to the nefarious activities of the likes of political jobbers parading themselves as Islamic clerics and preachers, Akeugbagold and Kaola that are using religion as a cover.

“It is on record that all the days of Akeugbagold as the Chairman of Pilgrim Board (Muslim wing) were characterized by fraud, misappropriation and adultery.

“It is an open secret that before he became the Chairman, he had.nothing to his name but during his reign he built schools with billions of naira.

“This same person that going about with campaign of calumny against the APC guber candidate forgot that he served a former governor, who was elected under the APC, to become what he is today, but as an ingrate, he is crucifying the same party and it’s gubernatorial candidate.

“For Kaola, what can a woman, who claimed to be a Islamic preacher, but got married to five men within few years, including her younger sister’s husband. This woman is nothing but a disgrace to womanhood.

“Clerics should be virtuous and not charlatans as it is being demonstrated by Akeugbagold, Kaola and their co-travellers.

“We want to appeal and call on Islamic religious bodies, particularly Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs and Muslim Ummah of South West of Nigeria (MUSWEN), to caution them from further bringing the religion of peace into dispute because they have turned themselves to campaign coordinators of Governor Seyi Makinde because of selfish financial gains.”
