The  Ikorodu-Oga Development Association (IKODASS) has called on government at all levels, private organisations and well-meaning individuals, to promote education, through literary competition among youths.
Alhaji Kolawole Fatai, Chairman of IKODASS made the call at a news conference on Thursday in Lagos.
The news conference was to showcase a  live stage drama presentation of  “OWANBE”, held at the ultra modern town hall in Ikorodu.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that OWANBE is a winning play at the 2022 IKODASS’ literary competition, in conjunction with Kith and Kin Education Schools.
The live stage performance of OWANBE play, scheduled  to hold on July 26,  would be hosted by Kith & Kin Educational Schools, at the town hall.
“The play, ‘OWANBE’ underscores the commitment of IKODASS to the promotion of education, through literary competition among Ikorodu youths.
“The forthcoming live stage performance of OWANBE play book is in direct alignment with the ‘E’ in our agenda, which stands for Education.
“The stage performance further lend credence to our administration’s passion for talent discovery and promotion, among students and youths across the Ikorodu community of Lagos state,” he said.
According to him, OWANBE  literary book showcases what makes the community thick and unique, as sons and daughters of Ikorodu-Oga, by promoting their socio-cultural values as a people.
He explained that  the idea was also to promote informal learning among students.
Fatai further added that it would also , serve  as a platform for discovering and promoting acting and other creative talents, among secondary school students.
The chairman noted  that the live drama performance would  feature a special cultural dance performance by the newly reconstituted IKODASS baby,  called Ikorodu-Oga Cultural Troupe (IKOCAT).
According to him, this will further showcase the rich socio-cultural heritage of Ikorodu town.
“Owambe live stage performance is a manifestation of what is achievable through strategic collaboration.
“Hence,  I want to use this opportunity to announce to all and sundry that our executive council is open to partnerships and collaborations that will move our dear Ikorodu forward,” he said.
He commended the  traditional ruler, Oba Kabiru Shotobi (Ayangburen of Ikorodu ) for his support and assurance to grace  the event,  as the royal  father,  during the occasion.
“We call on all sons and daughters at home and in diaspora  to collaborate and support this laudable socio-cultural cum educational project.
“They should turn out enmasse to witness this epoch-making drama performance,” he said.
