Gateway Shield: IGP Egbetokun Unveils Ogun’s Digital Safety Lifeline

The Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has once again shown his determination to reposition the Nigeria Police Force for the realities of 21st-century security. In Abeokuta, Ogun State, the IGP formally launched Gateway Shield, a tech-powered safety and intelligence platform designed to bridge the gap between citizens and law enforcement.

At its core, Gateway Shield is more than just another mobile application. It is a digital lifeline, conceived to give Ogun residents instant access to police services in situations where reaching a station may be difficult or time-sensitive. In the IGP’s words:

“This is not just an app, it is a lifeline. We are leveraging smart technology to eliminate barriers between the public and the police, ensuring that help is always within reach.”

Accessible via the Play Store (search Gatewayshield), the web (www.thegatewayshield.com), and a toll-free hotline (08000009111), the platform connects users to trained, bilingual agents at the Ogun State Police Digital Center. From there, incidents are logged, complaints processed, and the nearest police units mobilised in real time.

The app goes beyond emergency response. It allows users to report incidents, track safety trends, and receive prompt interventions on a wide range of issues—property disputes, traffic violations, domestic disturbances, and violent crimes. All of this is powered by a 24/7 solar-enabled command centre, manned by IT-savvy police officers.

This innovation is consistent with IGP Egbetokun’s broader strategy of transforming the Nigeria Police into a smart, citizen-centred institution. His tenure has already seen the deployment of Armoured Personnel Carriers to Ogun in early 2025 and the commissioning of a modern police headquarters in 2024, with a pledge to make the Command a hub of technology-driven policing.

With Gateway Shield, Ogun State is not just raising the bar in community security—it is setting a national model for tech-enabled, people-first policing.

CSP Omolola Odutola, the Police Public Relations Officer for Ogun State Command, described the launch as a landmark in public safety, one that will deepen trust between citizens and law enforcement.
