In a decisive operation along Nigeria’s southwestern border, the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has arrested Obi Levi Obieze, also known as Levi Obu Onyeka, a man wanted by the Enugu State Police Command for his alleged involvement in multiple violent crimes, including abduction, kidnapping, and ritual killings.

The arrest occurred at the Gbaji checkpoint along the Badagry-Seme Road, a major transit route toward the Republic of Benin. Obieze was reportedly attempting to flee the country on a commercial motorcycle in a desperate bid to escape law enforcement surveillance.

Acting on an intelligence alert from the Enugu State Police, immigration officers stationed at the checkpoint flagged down the suspect after observing suspicious behavior. During questioning, Obieze allegedly tried to conceal his identity and offered misleading information. However, biometric verification and further checks revealed his true identity and his status as a wanted fugitive.

A senior NIS official, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the arrest and praised the effectiveness of inter-agency cooperation, stating:

“This was a coordinated effort built on shared intelligence. Once we identified the individual, we acted swiftly to prevent his escape. His arrest highlights the importance of our border security operations and the critical role of collaboration among Nigeria’s security agencies.”

Obieze was immediately taken into custody and has since been transferred to the appropriate authorities. He is expected to be transported to Enugu State, where police investigators are preparing to question him further in connection with an ongoing investigation into a series of gruesome crimes that have unsettled local communities.

The Enugu State Police Command, in a press release following the arrest, commended the vigilance and swift action of the Immigration Service. The statement reaffirmed the command’s commitment to hunting down all individuals linked to ritual killings and criminal networks.

“We want to reassure the public that no criminal will go unpunished. Our officers will continue to work tirelessly, and with the help of the public and other agencies, we are closing in on others connected to these crimes,” the statement read.

The arrest of Obieze marks a significant milestone in the ongoing crackdown on ritual-related violence and criminal syndicates operating across state lines and international borders. Authorities urge citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity, stressing that the battle against organized crime is far from over.

Investigations are still ongoing, and further updates are expected in the coming days.
