From Hero To Sidelines: Salah Reveals Frustration with Club Amid Poor Form

Liverpool’s recent run of poor form has rattled the club, but no one seems to be feeling the shockwaves more personally than Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian superstar, who has spent years as the heartbeat of Liverpool’s attack, says his “nightmare” began the moment the team’s results dipped — and suddenly, he found himself on the fringes.
In an unusually emotional interview, Salah revealed that being benched during the club’s current crisis has left him “very, very disappointed” and confused about his place in a team he has carried through some of its brightest modern moments.
“I couldn’t believe it,” he said, recalling how he watched from the sidelines for an entire 90 minutes — something he insists has never happened to him before. “It’s the first time in my career.”
For a player who has scored relentlessly since joining Liverpool in 2017, the experience feels like a harsh turn of events.
“I have done so much for this club. Everybody can see that during the years, and especially last season,” he said. “Sitting on the bench… it seems the club are throwing me under the bus. That’s how it feels.”
Salah suggested that the shift didn’t come out of nowhere. Instead, he believes it is tied to the club’s struggles on the pitch and a desire to place the blame on him.
“It seems very clear that someone wants me to get all the blame,” he said. “The club promised me a lot in the summer… and nothing so far. And now I’m on the bench for three games.”
What hurts most, he said, is the sudden collapse of what had long been a strong relationship with the manager.
“I had a good relationship with the manager… and all of a sudden we don’t have any relationship. I don’t know why.”
Despite his affection for the club, Salah now feels unprotected and unfairly scrutinised during Liverpool’s downturn.
“If I was somewhere else, the club would protect its player,” he said. “I don’t think I should be fighting every day for a position I earned.”
He maintains that he isn’t claiming to be more important than anyone else — only that he wants the respect his performances deserve.
When the subject turned to his future, Salah struck a cautious note.
“In football you never know, but I don’t accept this situation,” he said, refusing to be drawn on links to Saudi Arabia.
He also anticipates criticism from some of Liverpool’s former stars-turned-pundits.
“I know tomorrow Carragher is going to go for me again… and that’s fine.”
But what troubles him deeply is the perceived double standard in how he is judged compared with others.
He mentioned Harry Kane’s long goal drought some years ago, noting how the English media rallied around him.
“When it comes to Mo, everyone is like, ‘He needs to be on the bench.’ I’m sorry, Harry!”
With more goals and assists than any Premier League player in his generation, Salah’s anguish is not just about lost minutes on the pitch — it’s about loyalty, respect, and the feeling that a club in crisis is pushing its greatest performer to the margins.
Yet even in the middle of his pain, one truth stands firm: Mohamed Salah still loves Liverpool. What he no longer knows is whether Liverpool still loves him back.
