Former Deputy Governor’s Family Hit By Tragic Loss After Dubai Procedure

The family of former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, is in deep mourning following the sudden death of her son, Dr. Oluwafemi Olawale Adefulire.

Dr. Adefulire, a UK-based medical doctor, reportedly passed away in the early hours of Wednesday after undergoing an undisclosed surgical procedure in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. While the details of the surgery remain unclear, family sources confirmed that his death was entirely unexpected and devastating. He is survived by his wife and children.

The news has sent shockwaves across the political community, particularly within the All Progressives Congress (APC), where Orelope-Adefulire remains a respected and influential figure. Party members and associates expressed disbelief at the tragic loss.

APC Lagos spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, described the incident as “the kind of tragedy most dreadful for parents,” adding: “It’s sadly true. APC is devastated. Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire is an exceptionally good person. The entire party has been thrown into mourning over this humongous tragedy. May his precious soul rest in peace.”

Fondly known as “Mama Alimosho,” Orelope-Adefulire served as Lagos State Deputy Governor from 2011 to 2015 under former Governor Babatunde Fashola. She currently serves as the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a role she has held across two administrations following her reappointment in 2023.

With a distinguished career spanning more than two decades—including her tenure as Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation from 2003 to 2011—Orelope-Adefulire has earned a reputation as a seasoned administrator, social worker, and formidable grassroots politician. She is the Political Apex Leader of the APC in Alimosho and a member of the Lagos State Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC).

Her son’s sudden death has cast a heavy pall over her family and associates, leaving many grappling with the shock of the loss. As of press time, the family had not released details regarding burial arrangements.
