FG Reassures Public On Abuja Security Amid U.S. Embassy Travel Advisory

The Federal Government of Nigeria has responded to the latest security advisory issued by the United States Embassy in Abuja, which restricts its staff and their families from non-official travel to military sites and government facilities within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
In a statement issued by the Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the government acknowledged the right of foreign missions to issue advisories but emphasized that Abuja remains safe for citizens, residents, and visitors.
“The Federal Government recognizes and respects the right of foreign missions, including the U.S. Embassy, to issue travel advisories to their citizens. However, it is important to state categorically that Abuja remains safe,” the Minister said.
He noted that Nigeria’s security and intelligence agencies are actively working to protect all residents and continue to record major successes in detecting, preventing, and neutralizing potential threats.
According to the Minister, the U.S. advisory appears to be based on general global security trends and not on any specific or imminent threat within the FCT.
“There is no cause for alarm,” Idris reassured, addressing not only foreign missions but also investors, development partners, and the general public. “Our security architecture is proactive, robust, and continues to ensure the safety of all.”
The government reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining Abuja’s status as one of the most secure capital cities globally, noting that security agencies are monitoring the national situation closely and remain prepared to respond decisively to any challenges.
Citizens were urged to go about their lawful activities without fear but to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities.
