The Federal Government will relaunch the Renewed Hope National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme (RH-NHGSFP) on May 29, 2025, as part of activities commemorating President Bola Tinubu’s second year in office.

Supervised by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, the initiative aims to feed 10 million public school pupils in Primary 1–3 daily with nutritious, locally sourced meals.

Key Objectives of the Programme:

Boost school enrolment by 20% and academic performance by 15% by the end of 2025.

Reduce child malnutrition, improve retention, and strengthen local agricultural economies.

Empower women, youth, cooks, and smallholder farmers through training, job creation, and inclusive practices.

Speaking on the initiative, Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Yusuf Sununu, stated:

“Our mission is to feed every public school pupil in Primary One to Three, nurturing their potential and building the nation’s future. This initiative is a major step toward fighting hunger, malnutrition, and low school enrolment across the country.”

Backed by a ?100 billion allocation in the 2025 budget, the upgraded programme introduces QR-coded supply chains, real-time tracking for transparency, and partnership with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to register and monitor all beneficiaries.

Additionally, nutritionists and health experts will oversee food quality and pupil wellbeing. By focusing on local sourcing through women-led cooperatives, the RH-NHGSFP targets a 40% reduction in rural poverty, reinforcing President Tinubu’s broader agenda on human capital development and poverty alleviation.
