A  leaked document reportedly from the Kano State Ministry for Local Government has surfaced, showing the government’s approval of a jaw-dropping N670 million for the repair of two vintage vehicles and the supply of four luxury vehicles. The letter, dated 25th March 2025, was addressed to the Chairpersons of the 44 Local Government Councils and signed by  one Abubakar S. Dabo, Director of Local Government Inspection.

According to the document, each LGA is to contribute N15,227,272.72 from the State/Local Government Joint Account. The funds are designated for:

  • Repairs of a 1995 Fleetwood Cadillac Limousine and a 1964 Daimler DS 420 for a combined N50 million.
  • Purchase of:
    • 1 Toyota Hilux 2024 model for N98 million.
    • 1 Toyota Land Cruiser VXR 2024 Full Option for N268 million.
    • 1 Prado 2024 model for N150 million.

These vehicles are to be supplied to the Kano Emirate Council by a company named Sottom Snergy Resources Ltd.

This revelation comes at a time when many Nigerians are grappling with economic hardship, prompting outrage over the government’s priorities. Citizens and civil society groups are questioning the justification for such extravagant spending on luxury vehicles and decades-old limousines when public infrastructure and basic services remain underfunded.

The document also shows that all 44 LGAs are being directed to comply strictly with the approval, raising concerns about transparency and the necessity of such expenditures.

The Kano State Government is yet to issue an official statement regarding the authenticity or rationale behind this expenditure or debunk the document
