The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has filed a three-count charge against Ezekiel Onyedikachuwu Thankgod, also known as Eezee Global, over the alleged misappropriation of $443,371 belonging to renowned Nigerian gospel singers, Mercy Chinwo and Judith Kanayo, popularly known as Judikay.

Thankgod, the former manager to Chinwo and the head of Eezee Global Concepts Limited, is being prosecuted alongside his company before the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos.

The criminal case, marked ID/25810c/25, was brought by EFCC prosecutors Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), Bilikisu Buhari-Bala, and Sulaiman I. Sulaiman.

According to the charge sheet, the defendant allegedly dishonestly converted various sums of money—including $112,985, $260,494, and $69,892—to his personal use in 2023. The total amount allegedly stolen is $443,371, all said to be the rightful earnings of gospel artistes Chinwo and Kanayo.

The EFCC contends that the defendant violated Sections 280(1)(a) and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011, which deal with theft and dishonest appropriation of property.

As of the time of this report, no date has been fixed for Thankgod’s formal arraignment.

The development has sparked widespread concern in Nigeria’s gospel music industry, where both Mercy Chinwo and Judikay are respected voices with a global following.
