EFCC Appeals Court Order Releasing 27 Properties
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has filed a notice of appeal challenging a judgment of the Federal High Court, Abuja, which ordered the release of 27 properties to James Ikechukwu Okwete and his company, Jamec West Africa Limited.
The judgment, delivered by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik on October 31, 2025, directed that the properties earlier seized by the Commission be returned to Okwete. Dissatisfied with the decision, the EFCC approached the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, seeking to halt its execution.
In its Notice of Appeal filed in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/348/2025, EFCC counsel, Abba Mohammed, SAN, is requesting two orders from the appellate court. The first is an order staying the execution of the Federal High Court judgment pending the hearing and determination of the appeal filed on December 1, 2025.
The second is an order granting any further relief the Court of Appeal may consider appropriate in the circumstances.
The case is now before the Court of Appeal and is awaiting the scheduling of a hearing date.
