D’Tigress Defeat Senegal 75–68 To Reach Fifth Consecutive AfroBasket Final

Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, defeated Senegal 75–68 in a thrilling semifinal clash at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, to secure a spot in their fifth consecutive final. The hard-fought victory not only extended Nigeria’s unbeaten run in the tournament but also moved them a step closer to making history as the first African nation to win five straight continental titles.
The game lived up to expectations as a fierce battle between two African basketball giants. Senegal started brightly, racing to an 11–2 lead within the opening minutes. But the defending champions responded with a blistering 13–0 run to take a 22–17 lead by the end of the first quarter. Nigeria maintained the momentum in the second quarter and edged it 21–20, taking a 43–37 lead into halftime, thanks in part to a buzzer-beating three-pointer from Victoria Thiaw — her first points of the game.
Senegal came out strong in the third quarter, dominating the frame with a 21–9 surge that gave them a six-point lead heading into the final quarter. But D’Tigress showed resilience, tightening their defense and finding rhythm offensively to retake control and eventually secure the win. The victory stretched Nigeria’s AfroBasket winning streak to 28 games, a run that began in 2015.
This result marks Nigeria’s ninth straight victory over Senegal at the tournament and reinforces their dominance in women’s basketball on the continent. With four consecutive AfroBasket titles already under their belt — 2017, 2019, 2021, and 2023 — D’Tigress now stand on the brink of an unprecedented fifth.
They will face the winner of the second semifinal in the championship game as they aim to cap off another undefeated campaign and cement their place in African basketball history.
