The Department of State Service (DSS) has arrested a medical doctor accused of supplying drugs to kidnapping gangs operating in parts of Kwara State.

The suspect, whose identity was yet to be confirmed as of press time, was intercepted in the Jebba area following intelligence reports that medical supplies were being moved from Sokoto to treat injured bandits hiding in forested areas of the state.

Security sources revealed that many of the criminal groups had sustained gunshot wounds in recent clashes with security forces.

“We are advising improved security measures in health facilities located around dense forests, as kidnappers may attempt to target them,” a security official warned.

Confirming the arrest, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Kwara State, Rafiu Ajakaye, described the development as another major breakthrough in the fight against banditry.

“This is a major stride by the DSS. It reinforces the fact that security agencies are closing in on these criminals and blocking the support systems that enable their operations,” he said.

Ajakaye added that the state government will continue strengthening collaboration with security agencies to shut down all channels aiding kidnapping activities.
