In a shocking incident that has heightened tensions in Plateau State, at least 36 cows have died and 42 others are critically ill after consuming poisoned garden eggs in Tafi Gana junction, Bassa Local Government Area.

According to Ya’u Idris, Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association in the area, the garden eggs were deliberately laced with poison and scattered across a grazing field. He described the act as a targeted attempt to harm herders’ livestock.

Security agencies, including the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 3 Division, have visited the site and pledged a full-scale investigation to uncover the perpetrators.

This incident follows closely on the heels of a violent attack in nearby Zikke village that claimed 52 lives, further fueling fears of deepening animosity between farming and herding communities.

In response to the growing unrest, Governor Caleb Mutfwang has imposed a dusk-to-dawn restriction on cattle transport, night grazing, and motorcycle movement, aimed at curbing the spate of violence and restoring peace in the region.
