Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has appointed Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, as Chairman of the newly established Osun State Sports Trust Fund.

According to the state government, the initiative is aimed at mobilising sustainable funding for the development and transformation of sports across the state.

Announcing the appointment in Osogbo, the Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Sports, Kola Adewusi, said the move reflects Governor Adeleke’s vision to reposition the sports sector and complete the ongoing renovation of the Osogbo Township Stadium to meet Olympic standards.

“The ongoing renovation and rehabilitation of the Osogbo Township Stadium will be completed in the shortest possible time,” Adewusi stated. “Plans are also at an advanced stage for the establishment of the Osun State Sports Commission, which will serve as the central body for sports administration, development, and policy implementation.”

Adewusi explained that the Sports Trust Fund, to be chaired by Davido, would attract contributions from philanthropists and private investors within and outside the state.

“Davido has been appointed to chair the Sports Trust Fund, and he did not hesitate to accept. His involvement will help attract resources that will significantly impact Osun sports,” the deputy governor added.

The government assured that the revamped stadium, upon completion, would not only host national sporting events but also attract international competitions, thereby boosting sports tourism and youth development in the state.
