Civil Society Coalition Warns Against Politically Motivated Cyber Attacks Targeting Mr Seyi Tinubu

The Coalition of Civil Society Organisations under the Office of the CSO’s Strategist issues this strong and unequivocal statement in response to the ongoing coordinated cyber attacks against Seyi Tinubu.
What Nigerians are witnessing is not organic concern. It is not principled activism. It is a calculated political operation designed to weaponize misinformation, inflame public sentiment, and destabilize reputations for partisan gain.
Let us state clearly Mr. Seyi Tinubu has publicly denied the allegations being circulated. The facts as presented remain simple and consistent that he met the individual concerned once in a public setting, alongside others, and offered financial support toward her NGO activities, consistent with his documented philanthropic engagements over the years. There was no private encounter, no impropriety, and no hidden arrangement.
Despite the clarification, certain opposition aligned actors and digital agitators have chosen to escalate insinuations instead of presenting evidence. This is not accountability; it is narrative warfare. Nigeria’s democracy cannot progress if political competition degenerates into reckless character attacks against individuals merely because of their name, visibility, or perceived political association. When opposition actors resort to digital mob tactics rather than constructive policy engagement, they endanger the very democratic stability they claim to defend.
We must address the broader danger, coordinated cyber bullying of prominent figures is not an isolated social media event, It is a destabilization tactic. It erodes public trust, deepens polarization, and encourages a culture where allegations are treated as convictions.
Philanthropy must never be criminalized for political convenience. Supporting NGOs is not a scandal. Engaging young Nigerians publicly to advance empowerment initiatives is not misconduct. Attempting to twist such engagements into conspiratorial narratives reflects desperation, not evidence.
The coalition is particularly concerned about the normalization of cyber harassment as a political strategy. Sustained digital attacks can have psychological consequences and security implications. No democracy should tolerate a political climate where harassment becomes a tool of opposition mobilization.
We caution political actors; Nigeria is already navigating economic pressures, security concerns, and social sensitivities. Reckless digital agitation built on unverified claims adds fuel to an already tense national atmosphere. Political ambition must not override national stability.
Democracy demands scrutiny but scrutiny must be evidenced based, lawful, and responsible. What we are witnessing in this case is an attempt to provoke outrage, manufacture scandal, and exploit online virality for partisan capital.
We therefore:
• Condemn in the strongest terms the politically motivated cyber bullying campaign.
• Call out opposition elements who are amplifying unverified narratives for strategic advantage.
• Urge digital influencers to desist from becoming tools in destabilization agendas.
• Reaffirm that reputational attacks without proof undermine democratic credibility.
Nigeria’s political future must not be reduced to digital lynch mobs and trending hashtags. If there are allegations, let them be tested through lawful and institutional processes not through coordinated online intimidation.
Cso’s strategist stands firmly against attempts to weaponize misinformation as a political tool. National stability requires responsible leadership across all divides.
Let’s hub the political game, Nigeria needs issue based opposition, not reputational sabotage. It needs constructive engagement, not digital warfare.
