Chaos At Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport As Sisters Fight Over Missed Flight

A dramatic altercation broke out between two adult sisters at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Sunday, after they missed their scheduled  flight due to late arrival at the terminal.

Eyewitnesses said the siblings had booked seats on the same flight but arrived after the boarding gate had closed. According to Part 19 of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) Act, passengers are required to arrive at the airport at least two hours before boarding time.

Frustrated by the missed flight, an argument reportedly ensued between the sisters, with one blaming the other for the delay. What began as a verbal exchange soon escalated into a physical confrontation.

Before stunned passengers and airport staff, the women threw punches and hurled insults, scattering their luggage and personal belongings across the terminal. The brawl caused a temporary disruption before security operatives from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) intervened and dragged the pair to the airport’s interrogation office.

However, the chaos continued even inside the office, as the sisters resumed fighting. In the process, one of them collapsed and fainted, triggering panic among airport personnel.

An ambulance was immediately called to the scene to convey the unconscious woman to a nearby hospital. Her sister, however, reportedly objected to the medical intervention, insisting that the incident had “spiritual” rather than physical causes.

Despite her protests, the fainted sister was transported to the FAAN clinic, where she is currently receiving medical attention. Her condition remains unclear as of press time.

Confirming the incident in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, NCAA spokesperson Michael Achimugu wrote:

“Perhaps one of them blamed her sibling for missing their flight (not sure), but these two siblings began to fight each other. They scattered luggage and other items before being dragged to the interrogation office by airport security. Inside, they began to fight again until one of them fainted. Calls were made for an ambulance to take her to the hospital, but her sister said the problem is more spiritual than medical. She is presently receiving attention at the FAAN clinic. Hopefully, she makes a recovery. This is not how things should be.”
