BREAKING: Kano Deputy Governor, Aminu Gwarzo, Impeached By Kano Assembly

The Kano State House of Assembly has impeached the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade Abdulsalam Aminu Gwarzo.

The Assembly took the decision during a plenary held on Thursday, March 5, 2026.

It was gathered that the deputy governor was impeached over his decision to remain in the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) following Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The development comes days after the Assembly dismissed reports alleging an ongoing move to impeach Gwarzo, describing the claims as unfounded and misleading.

Speaking to journalists in Kano on Saturday, the spokesperson to the Speaker of the House, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, said there is no discussion, motion, or initiative within the Assembly aimed at removing the deputy governor.

He stressed that the reports circulating in some sections of the media were inaccurate and risked creating unnecessary political tension in the state.

“There is absolutely no basis for these claims. The House has not initiated or is not considering any impeachment process against the deputy governor. The reports are false and should be disregarded by the public.”
