BREAKING: Army Commander, Three Officers, Twelve Soldiers killed In Delta Communal Clash- DHQ

In a grievous incident that has shaken the state of Delta, Nigeria, a contingent of soldiers from the 181 Amphibious Battalion based in Bomadi Local Government Area suffered catastrophic losses on Thursday, March 14, 2024.

The troops, engaged in a peacekeeping mission within the Okuoma community in the Bomadi LGA, fell victim to a brutal ambush by local youths, resulting in the death of 15 military personnel, including high-ranking officers.
The soldiers, responding to a distress call amid a burgeoning communal conflict between the neighbouring Okuama and Okoloba communities, were encircled and fatally attacked by the youths. The escalation claimed the lives of the battalion’s commanding officer, two majors, one captain, and twelve other soldiers in what marks a sad day for the Nigerian military and the nation at large.
In response to this heinous act, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, has ordered an immediate investigation, calling for the swift apprehension and prosecution of those responsible.

The Delta State government has been notified of the tragedy, highlighting the severity and potential ramifications of the attack.
Despite the loss, the military has reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring peace and security across Nigeria. Following the incident, authorities have reported preliminary arrests, signalling the commencement of a rigorous inquiry aimed at uncovering the motives behind the attack and preventing further violence.
The community and the nation mourn the loss of these soldiers, who are remembered for their bravery and dedication to peace. The incident has drawn widespread condemnation and calls for a renewed focus on conflict resolution and community engagement to avert future tragedies.
