The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has disbursed a total of N1,326,550,000 to the University of Lagos (UNILAG) to support students under the student loan scheme for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The Fund confirmed that the disbursement was completed on January 19, 2026, in line with its approved schedule. The amount covers 6,308 UNILAG students who met all eligibility requirements under the NELFUND student loan programme.
NELFUND explained that beneficiary lists were compiled using verified institutional data submitted during the application and validation process, ensuring that only qualified students were captured.
It reiterated that once funds are released to an institution, beneficiaries should be able to proceed with registration and access academic activities without delay.
The Fund added that it remains in continuous engagement with officials of tertiary institutions to ensure proper reconciliation of beneficiary lists, timely application of disbursed funds to students’ accounts, and clear communication to students to prevent misinformation and avoidable distress.
Speaking on the disbursement, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NELFUND, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, reaffirmed the Fund’s commitment to transparency and student welfare, noting that the agency is working closely with partner institutions to resolve any administrative gaps.
NELFUND urged students and stakeholders to rely on official information from the Fund and their institutions, assuring that necessary steps are being taken to address any outstanding issues. Students were advised to contact their institution’s bursary or student affairs offices for further clarification as engagement with UNILAG continues to conclude reconciliation.
