An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Monday remanded a popular Lagos clergyman, Bishop Oluwafeyiropo Daniels, for allegedly raping two of his church members (names withheld).

A judge, Ramon Oshodi, remanded Bishop Daniel, the founder of I Reign Christian Ministry in Kirikiri Correctional Centre, Lagos pending the fulfilment of his bail conditions.

Oshodi admitted the defendant to N20 million bail with two sureties in like sum.

He said one of the sureties must be the owner of a build-up property in Lagos State and the property must be enough to cover the bail sum.

“The original document of the landed property must be submitted to the chief registrar of Lagos State. The sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must have three years’ tax payment to the Lagos State,” he said.

The judge also ordered the defendant to deposit his international passport with the chief registrar of the court and ordered an accelerated hearing of the case.

Oshodi adjourned the case until 9 May for trial.

Earlier, the defence counsel, Olukunle Oyewole, while moving his bail application dated 10 April, urged the court to grant bail to the defendant on liberal terms.

Oyewole argued that the defendant had been on police administrative bail since 20 May 2022 and had made himself available to the police.

“My lord, the defendant was not informed on the day the matter came up for the first time before this court. The defendant is a well-known religious leader and he has shown by his action that he will not jump bail. The offence for which he is charged is a bailable offence and he has credible sureties that can stand for him,” he said.

The state lead prosecution counsel, Babajide Boye, in his counter affidavit dated 14 April, urged the court to refuse the bail application of the defendant, but left it at the discretion of the court.

Boye, however, argued that the alleged offences were of a serious nature and that the likelihood of conviction might put the defendant at flight risk.

“There is also the possibility of the defendant interfering with the prosecution witnesses. He is a bishop of so many branches and if granted bail, he may use his position to influence the prosecution witnesses as he is regarded as a man of authority who has the possibility of committing the same crime. We urge the court to deny the defendant bail because he has failed to provide the court with exceptional circumstances to grant him bail,” the prosecutor submitted.

Bishop Daniels was earlier arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on rape.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

According to the prosecution, the defendant allegedly committed the offences sometime in June 2020 in Ikota Villa Estate, Lekki, Lagos.

According to the prosecution, the alleged offences contravene Sections 260 (2) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

Bishop Daniels had claimed that he saw events that will unfold after the 2023 presidential election including how Bola Tinubu will be falsely announced winner, how Peter Obi will cry and challenge the results and how Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will be announced interim President.

Daniels on February 19, while speaking to members of his church claimed that the elections will be peaceful and that Atiku Abubakar will not win the 2023 presidential polls.

In a detailed explanation of what he saw spiritually, he claimed that Tinubu will be arrested by the military on the day of his swearing-in and subsequently removed as the next president.

He also said that Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate, will succeed Osinbajo as the substantive president following a court ruling.

“That is what God told me and that is all I said. Today’s date is what? Shout it, February 19, 2023. If you ask me a street question on the road and just said, Feyi, who will be the next President of Nigeria after Buhari, my answer will shock you but you will understand later because the ways of the prophet are different from the ways of man.

“If you ask me on the road, just walking on the road and you do not ask me to explain anything, you say Sir, after Buhari who will be the next president of Nigeria, I will tell you Yemi Osinbajo. I told you, I said my words will shock you. I know you are confused already but leave me, it is my office.

“You know there is always the will of man, but now not the will of the people, the will of the people have been sealed, as in, looking into the sky. If you ask me, after Buhari who will seat on the seat called the throne of Nigeria in Aso Rock, I will tell you the name of Yemi Osinbajo, except the man says no, mark my words, he will be offered,” Bishop Feyi said.

“The presidential election will be peaceful, don’t be afraid there will not be killings, go out and vote. However, because there is no money to buy votes, he will lose at the polls but already there is a partnership with a man in the system that will cause the votes to be rig, suddenly I saw numbers dropping and I saw INEC announcing BAT (Bola Ahmed Tinubu) as the winner.”

“However, follow me. I even saw what he was wearing, he was announced winner and you will see a video where he will do like this, the video will trend. A revolution is coming, a greater one than EndSARS is coming. Doors will be shut, you will not go to work, you will be in your houses. He will be declared winner on falsehood. I saw Peter Obi crying, red eyes in tears, proper tears, I saw Atiku like this.

“I have told Atiku four years ago, I have told his team four years ago that he will never become president of Nigeria and that is written in stone, he will never, he will never. So there is nothing to bother, he should just go home and keep his money. Follow me carefully, a revolution is coming, a greater than EndSARS revolution is coming, people doors will be shut, you will not go to work, you will be in your houses.

“How will this revolution start, hear me, somehow the information will spill out that the election was rigged and the news will get to the streets, it won’t just be Lagos, it will be almost every state of Nigeria. The youths will get to the streets and they will start the protests. These protest will lead to a revolution. Hear me, Peter Obi will go to court and the day for swearing-in, Tinubu will come, I saw white, I saw green.

“About to be sworn-in, that day, everybody that said he is the next president will be rejoicing and they will be saying, I told you, prophets that don’t see far will start telling you that, didn’t I tell you that Tinubu is the next president? At that event, it looks like a very open ground, like a stadium-like centre, while at that event, military men will come in and they will arrest Tinubu.

“I am playing a movie before you, it seems? So that you will know, that prophecy is not just calling people’s name, mark my words, I am speaking from my office, I am not speaking by a gift, he will be arrested, and at that point an interim government will rule Nigeria.”

Bishop Daniels was also quoted to have said that the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike would be arrested and that the state’s Governor-Elect, Sim Fubara, would not win the election.
