Awujale Succession Drama: Fusengbuwa Ruling House Disowns KWAM 1, Declares Fuji Icon Ineligible For Ogun Royal Throne

The race for the Awujale of Ijebuland has taken a dramatic turn as the Fusengbuwa Ruling House—one of the royal lineages traditionally entitled to the throne—has publicly disowned Fuji maestro, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (KWAM 1), declaring that he is not a member of the dynasty and therefore not eligible to ascend the revered stool.
The ruling house issued a strongly worded rebuttal after reports emerged suggesting that the legendary musician, also known as K1 De Ultimate, had submitted forms indicating interest in the kingship succession process.
In an official statement signed by leaders of the Fusengbuwa family, the ruling house dismissed the claim outright, insisting that KWAM 1 has no genealogical link whatsoever to the royal lineage.
“For the avoidance of doubt, your claim to the membership of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House is REJECTED and the completed form is of no consequence,” the ruling house declared.
Royal Heritage Not for ‘Public Figures’ Without Ancestral Ties
The statement emphasised that the Awujale throne is hereditary and cannot be influenced by popularity, public acclaim, or national prominence. According to the ruling house, only direct descendants from recognised branches of the Fusengbuwa lineage can be considered—an ancestry they insist KWAM 1 cannot claim.
Family leaders further stressed that their decision was based on historical records, lineage verification, and ancestral documentation handed down over generations.
Calm Down, It’s Not Personal — Fusengbuwa Family Clarifies
Attempting to dispel perceptions of personal animosity, the Fusengbuwa Ruling House stated that their rejection of KWAM 1’s claim does not diminish his contributions to Ijebuland, Yoruba culture, or the global entertainment scene.
They described him as a “distinguished son of Ijebu land” but noted that cultural honour must not be confused with royal entitlement.
The Awujale throne—one of the most prestigious royal seats in Yorubaland—became vacant following the passing of Oba Sikiru Adetona, the highly respected monarch who reigned for over six decades. With the succession process underway, multiple ruling houses have been asserting their rights, fuelling intense public interest and internal debates.
KWAM 1’s purported expression of interest immediately sparked social media buzz, given his close ties to the Ijebu palace and longstanding relationship with the late Awujale.
What Next for KWAM 1?
It remains unclear whether the Fuji superstar will challenge the ruling house’s decision, withdraw quietly, or seek clarification from the kingmakers. However, the Fusengbuwa family’s emphatic rejection suggests that his path to the throne may face significant traditional obstacles.
As Ijebu observers watch the unfolding events, one thing is clear: the contest for the Awujale throne has entered a far more dramatic phase—one in which even celebrities are not spared the weight of tradition and ancestry.
