Awujale Stool: Ogun Govt Dismisses Claims Of Ultimatum, Reaffirms Due Process

The Ogun State Government has dismissed as false and misleading reports alleging a confrontation between Governor Dapo Abiodun and the Council of Afobajes over the selection of a new Awujale of Ijebuland.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, Mr. Kayode Akinmade, described the reports as “a deliberate distortion of facts aimed at misleading the public and sowing discord within Ijebuland.”
According to Akinmade, Governor Abiodun recently held a consultative meeting with the Council of Afobajes in a peaceful and respectful atmosphere, consistent with similar engagements he had previously held with the Olori Ebis. He noted that those earlier interventions helped to resolve deep-seated disagreements, promote unity among stakeholders, and even led to the withdrawal of a pending court case by one of the kingmakers.
“The Governor’s discussions with the Afobajes were centered strictly on issues of mutual concern and the orderly progress of traditional affairs in Ijebuland,” Akinmade stated. “At no time did the Governor issue threats, ultimatums, or attempt to influence the selection process.”
The Special Adviser further dismissed reports attributing statements such as ‘No Kuye, No Awujale’ to the Governor, describing them as “entirely fabricated and baseless.”
“No Afobaje can attest to such an occurrence because it never happened,” Akinmade said. “This is yet another example of the reckless falsehoods being peddled by mischief makers.”
He reaffirmed that Governor Abiodun remains fully committed to due process, respect for the autonomy of traditional institutions, and a fair, transparent, and peaceful process in the selection of a new Awujale of Ijebu.
“The Governor’s reverence for the Awujale stool is well known and has been consistently demonstrated through his actions and engagements,” the Special Adviser added.
Members of the public, traditional stakeholders, and the media were therefore urged to disregard the unfounded insinuations and rely solely on verified information from official government sources.
